Wattie’s Baked Beans in Tomato Sauce
Simple. They’re 99% fat-free, high in protein, high in dietary fibre, low GI, a source of iron and a great source of folate and lycopene, without preservatives or added colours. A great list, but what do these actually mean to us?
Without a doubt, tomatoes are one of the New Zealand’s most-loved foods. Not only are they wonderfully delicious, but they’re a great source of fibre, antioxidant vitamins A, C and the B group vitamins. They also contain vitamin E, potassium and other trace elements.
Fruit and veges
Delicious, satisfying and so very good for us. Fruit and vegetables are packed with essential vitamins, minerals and fibre and are usually low in fat and salt, all of which make them an excellent food choice. Many varieties also contain phytochemicals (natural chemicals) that have valuable antioxidant properties. It is these phytochemicals that give fruit and vegetables their wonderful bright colours.
Canned and frozen, always in season
We often say we don’t have time to shop for fresh ingredients and prepare healthy, balanced meals.
Fresh ingredients can also be expensive, especially during the winter months, and may be out of season when you want them. If these reasons stop you from getting your recommended daily intake, don’t forget that canned and frozen fruit and vegetables count too!
Eating at least five serves of fruit and vegetables every day is recommended by the Ministry of Health. Here are some tips to get more fruit and veges in your day.
Food Labels and Food Safety
Food labels contain lots of detailed information to help you make the best informed choice for you and your family. At Wattie’s, we take the depth and accuracy of the information we provide on our product labels seriously.
