Career Story with Wattie’s
I joined Wattie’s at the end of 2016 straight out of university. Funnily enough, my plan was to get into investment banking but who would say no to working with one of NZ’s most iconic brands? I started my career at Wattie’s at the end of 2016 as a Territory Sales Manager, promoted less than a year later to a Key Account Executive. In July 2018 I was promoted again to Account Manager and now work as Senior Category Customer Analyst ANZ.
What motivated you to join us?
Working with one of NZ’s most iconic brands is really what interested me in the first place. Now that I’ve been here for a number of years, it’s the endless learning and the people that I work with on a day to day basis that keeps me going – it really doesn’t feel like I’m working with colleagues, but rather a group of friends!
What do you enjoy most about your role?
In all honesty, learning. Being out of my depth is something that is both challenging but also super rewarding at the same time. Here at Wattie’s, there’s always more opportunities to learn and with ownership being a core value, there is always something else you can sink your teeth into!
Why would you recommend us as a place to work?
I don’t know too many other workplaces where I could have the privilege of working with super smart people I genuinely consider friends. Everyone’s here to support and help out when the going gets tough and here to celebrate when you land your wins. On top of the people, we’re dealing with some of NZ’s favourite brands here and with that comes a lot of responsibility – you see the amount of care we put into our brands here on a daily basis.
What’s your career highlight, what you’re most proud of?
Last year, I grew my portfolio by 40% vs the prior year – I was pretty stoked about that!
What motivates you outside of work? Who inspires you?
Haha this is a bit of a weird one… I would say J. Cole is my inspiration. I’m a major fan of his music and genuinely love what he stands for – just be yourself and when you’re successful, build a bigger table, not a taller fence.
What do you like to do most in your spare time?
What’s your favourite product and why?
Honestly, I couldn’t give you a single product that’s my favourite – we make so many amazing things, it’s impossible to pick one. I can tell you that our sauces are my favourite category, I can’t drill down more than that to be honest.
