Beef and Bean Pies
Cute little pies in crisp bread cases – topped with melted cheese. Great for a Sunday night tea – or any time there’s a crowd to feed.

Ingredients
- 15 slices Nature's Fresh White Toast Bread
- 75 g butter, melted
- 1 small onion, peeled, finely diced
- 250 g lean beef mince
- 420g can Wattie's Baked Beans
- 1 Tbsp chopped fresh thyme
- 1/4 - 1/2 cup grated tasty cheese
Method
1. Trim the crusts from the bread slices and flatten each with a rolling pin. Cut 12 slices into 10cm diameter rounds. Brush one side lightly with melted butter and place into 12 muffin tins.
2. Bake at 180 °C for 15-18 minutes or until crisp and golden.
3. Panfry the onion and beef mince in a dash of oil, until the mince is browned and onion softened. Stir in the Wattie’s Baked Beans and thyme and heat through.
4. Spoon equal amounts of mixture into the bread cases. Cut remaining bread slices into small triangles and brush with melted butter. Place 2 overlapping triangles on top of each pie and sprinkle with a little grated cheese.
5. Cook for a further 10-12 minutes or until the tops are crisp and golden.
Tip: If you would prefer a spicier flavour replace Wattie’s Baked Beans with a can of Wattie’s Chilli Beans

Ingedients:
- 500g lean lamb or beef mince
- 420g can Wattie's Mild Chilli Beans
- 400g can Wattie's Mexican Style Tomatoes
- Aztec Nacho Cheese Corn Chips
- 1/2 cup lite sour cream, optional
- 1 Tbsp chopped chives or spring onions (optional)
Method:
1. In a non-stick pan, heat a dash of oil and brown mince in batches.
2. Return mince to the pan, add Wattie’s Mild Chilli Beans and Wattie’s Mexican Style Tomatoes to the mince. Simmer for 5 minutes.
3. Place corn chips into individual bowls, spoon over nacho mince. Sprinkle the cheese on top. Place under a hot grill to melt.
4. Top with sour cream and chopped chives if you wish. Serve with a salsa or fresh green salad.
Tip: Serve with zingy salsa made from 1 chopped tomato, 1⁄4 cup chopped mint or coriander and finely chopped red onion. Toss together with the juice of a lime.
Wedges with Mexican Tomato Dip
Time and Serves:
- Serves: Serves 4-5 as a snack
Ingredients:
- 700g bag Wattie's Original Crunchy Wedges
- 400g can Wattie's Mexican Spiced Tomatoes
- 425g can Craig's Chilli Beans
Method:
1. Cook the Wattie's Original Crunchy Wedges according to the directions on the packet.
2. Process or mash one can Craig's Chilli Beans in a saucepan and stir in one can Wattie's Mexican Spiced Tomatoes and heat through.
3. Serve the wedges with the dip while everything is hot.
