'PLUMTASTIC' GROWERS – MIKE AND JULIE RUSSELL
Wattie’s Black Doris plums are grown to perfection in the sunny Hawkes Bay by some of New Zealand’s top plum growers Mike and Julie Russell. Their orchard has approximately 8,000 plum trees of various varieties. Each season the Russell’s strive to grow and present the best summer fruit possible. "At the end of the day we’re producing food that we’re proud to put our name on” says Mike. Black Doris plums are uniquely Kiwi with their intense flavour and juicy rich red flesh. It’s the only variety Wattie’s cans to ensure the best quality end product that can be enjoyed all year round.
Mike and Julie have been working with Wattie’s for over 27 years and are currently one of Wattie’s significant plum suppliers. In the past they have supplied many other crops processed by Wattie’s including tomatoes, peas, beans, peaches, asparagus and gherkins. It’s this breath of crop supply which drives their long association with Wattie’s. It’s a relationship they are proud of and they continue to work closely with Wattie’s to improve their crops each season.”
